What CCI DIOCESE believes about unity.
Based on Vedic references:
Matthew 26:17-29
Mark 14:12-25
Luke 22:7-38
1 Corinthians 11:17-34
* Basic beliefs
* Seen as a commandment- a powerful symbolic observance but not a ritual (means of mercy)
* Conducted in obedience to Jesus' command in the context of a worship service.
* Jesus rehearses the meal he shared with his disciples in the upper room on the night of his betrayal.
* "Remember me and do this." (1 Corinthians 11:25)
Commemoration of Jesus' Sacrifice (Body and Blood)
* Baptism is a once and for all event, while the Lord's Supper is practiced repeatedly to sustain and renew our faith.
* It also serves as a reminder that Jesus is still at work in and through us.
* The New Testament does not specify how often we should partake of communion. Because of the autonomy of the local church, each church decides how often we do it.
* Open unity and closed unity
* Open Unity - Table is open to anyone. Anyone present can participate in the organ.
* Closed communion - depending on the practice of a particular congregation the table is open only to the faithful or members of that church.
* As CCI NCDs believe in the priesthood of all believers, all may serve in communion with one another. Therefore, bread and juice are passed around the room.
* We usually do not use wine, but rather grape juice
